Women’s Breastfeeding Awareness – August 2025
Posted on:
World Breastfeeding Week is observed globally each year from 1 to 7 August, and in 2025, its theme is “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”, encouraging community- and healthcare-led support for breastfeeding mothers.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of long-term, inclusive support systems to ensure every woman has the opportunity to breastfeed with confidence and comfort.
- At Home: Family support is vital. Encouragement from partners, relatives, and friends creates a nurturing environment where mothers feel emotionally supported and practically helped.
- In the Community: Peer support groups, baby cafés, and local breastfeeding meetups can offer guidance, encouragement, and shared experiences, reducing isolation and improving confidence.
- At Work: Employers have a responsibility to support breastfeeding through maternity policies, flexible working arrangements, and providing clean, private spaces for expressing milk.
- In Public Spaces: Normalising breastfeeding in public, providing clean baby feeding areas, and promoting inclusivity allows mothers to feed comfortably wherever they are.
- In Healthcare: Our clinical team at Exmoor Surgery offers advice, support, and referrals to local services. Health visitors, midwives, and lactation consultants all play a crucial role in the early days of feeding.
Why it matters: Breastfeeding provides unmatched nutritional benefits, natural immunity, and emotional bonding opportunities for infants, while significantly reducing environmental waste and healthcare cost’s.
