Know Your Number’s Week!

The UK’s largest blood pressure testing and awareness campaign, taking place every September.

What Is the ”Know Your Number’s” Campaign About?

The campaign encourages every adult to know their blood pressure numbers as well as they know their height and weight. When you understand your numbers, you can take control of your health and make positive changes that could add years to your life.

This award-winning initiative has already helped 1.5 million people get free blood pressure checks and understand their cardiovascular health.

Why Your Blood Pressure Matter’s

High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it rarely has obvious symptoms, yet it significantly increases your risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Shockingly, around 6 million people in the UK are living with high blood pressure without knowing it. Every single day, 350 people in the UK experience a preventable stroke or heart attack.

The good news? Knowing your blood pressure numbers can be life-saving.

What Should Your Numbers Be?

An ideal blood pressure reading is under 120/80mmHg.

These two numbers tell us:

  • Systolic pressure (120): the pressure when your heart beats
  • Diastolic pressure (80): the pressure when your heart rests between beats

If your numbers are higher than this, don’t panic. There are many effective ways to manage blood pressure, from lifestyle changes to medication when needed.

How We’re Supporting the Campaign

We’re proud to support Know Your Number’s Week and want to help protect our patients from preventable heart attacks and strokes.

We encourage all our patients to:

  • Use the blood pressure machine in our waiting room area to check your numbers – it’s easy to use and gives you an instant reading
  • Ask about blood pressure monitoring at your next appointment
  • Contact the practice if you have concerns about your cardiovascular health

If you’re aged 40 or over, you’re entitled to a free NHS Health Check every five years, which includes blood pressure testing.
