Please note that children cannot act as interpreters during any treatment or appointments.
A member of our Practice Team handling your appointment will arrange an interpreter for you. To help us provide the right support, please let us know as early as possible if you require interpreting assistance, ideally when you book your appointment.
If you are attending a hospital appointment, contact the ward or department as soon as you receive your appointment letter to let them know that you will need an interpreter.
If necessary, a friend or relative who speaks English may contact us on your behalf the first time to inform us that you need an interpreter.
Important reminders:
- Please tell us if you cannot attend your appointment, so the interpreter can be released to help another patient.
- Let us know if you expect to be late, as this could affect other patients waiting to use the service.
- Share your feedback. Whether good or bad about communication during your appointment or treatment. Your comment’s help us improve the service for everyone.

Information for Newly Arrived Patients
We understand that registering with and accessing healthcare in a new country can be challenging. To help, the NHS has created a series of fact sheets explaining how health services work in the UK including:
- The role of GPs as the first point of contact and gatekeepers to other health services
- How to register with a GP
- How to access emergency services
These leaflets have been carefully written in clear, easy-to-understand language and tested with user groups to ensure they are accessible and helpful for newly arrived individuals seeking asylum.
You can open the leaflets in your preferred language below:
